The newly appointed Vice Chancellor of Edo State University Iyamoh, Prof. Victor Olawale Adetimirin has that he is committed for the transformation of the university through functional education that is capable of impacting knowledge in the entire Edo State and Nigeria in a holistic context of technologically, industrially and economically while still being globally relevant.

Prof. Adetimirin who disclosed this during his maiden press briefing at the university said his vision is to see the institution as one of the best in Nigeria and to ensure that the university attain international recognition through research and infrastructural development.

While promising to work hard with the management to ensuring the university emerged as number one in Nigeria, said to achieve these, he will drive-up the revenue of the university, diversified and ramp it up because without resources these recognitions can not be achieved.

The new VC promised to pursue a circular economy which in respect of the infrastructures in the university in making sure that Edo State University Iyamoh in terms of physical environment is the best in Africa and one of the best in the world.

He further promised to engage in recircle, reuse and regenerate to ensure that the campus is sustainable in every aspect as sustainability will address the United Nations sustainable development goals while also pursue things that will make the university to be rank as one of the most sustainable campuses globally.

He emphasized that the part-way to do this is to ensure that there is academic programs that is excellent in context and rigor that engaging world class, first class research capable of leading to transformation the university as that is one of the important ways to ensure globally relevant.

To do that, the new VC said there is need to improve on the infrastructures for teaching, learning and to encourage and provide the environment for staff to publish the results of their research, journals that will be read and recognized globally as that is one of the ways in which institutions are ranked.

The VC also stated that he would like to see digital in operations across the university as this will ensures transparency and make it almost impossible to manipulate as everything will be digitalized such as student information systems like the admission, making their timetable, their results, their clinical records and also knowing how the university’s budget is being managed thereby making informed decisions that are data based.

According to him, “Digitalization help to almost completely eliminate corruption and wastages in terms of collections of fees and other charges and also the disbursement and reduces paper theory.”

While soliciting for staff and students support, the VC however promised to improve on their welfare stating that he is ready to do anything that would make them happy, improve their mental health, provide life support for them in terms of their studies, scholarship and to prepare them for the world and also to support teacher/lecturer who may wish to publish a world class journal and cannot afford it and once they are doing that, they are also helping the institution which in turn making them healthy and be of good staff as well as taking care of their families.

Prof. Adetimirin thanked the state governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo for finding him worthy to be appointed as substantive Vice Chancellor of one of the fast growing universities in Nigeria. He also commended the government for putting up these fantastic facilities in the university in a very short time.
