Medical Doctor Arrested After Woman Dies During Surgical Process In Edo

A medical doctor has been arrested following the death of a woman during surgical process at a private hospital located in Uromi, headquarters of Esan North-East local government area of Edo State.
According to Police, the doctor identified as Festus Ugheghele of Dickson Medical Centre, Uromi, allegedly performed a Caesarean section on the victim, Mrs. Susan Omoye Okporan, 36, on August 2, 2025.
The woman reportedly developed complications and died shortly after the process, though her baby survived.
Her bereaved family members accused the doctor of gross professional negligence, which prompted a police investigation.

Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Moses Joel Yamu confirmed the arrest, as detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
Outcomes by our correspondent at the command headquarters in Benin revealed that operatives of the Homicide Section, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), took over the case from Uromi Police Division over two weeks ago.
It was further learnt that an autopsy had been conducted, and the result is awaiting interpretation by police medical experts to determine the next line of action. (Alltimepost)
