Some supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara are currently at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, Rivers State.

They had converged on Government House, Port Harcourt, on Thursday, but dispersed after several hours of waiting without the arrival of the governor.

Those waiting to receive the governor on Friday morning are members of his disbanded political family, the Simplified Movement, including the sacked Mayor of Port Harcourt City, Ichemati Ezebunwo, popularly known as Sugar Mayor.

Some members of Women Unite for SIM, a prayer group, were also sighted among the persons waiting for him at the airport.

Fubara’s whereabouts have been unknown as he has not been sighted publicly since President Bola Tinubu lifted the Emergency rule imposed on Rivers at the height of the political crisis in the state.

The governor’s media team has also been silent on his whereabouts.

When contacted on the telephone for comment on Fubara’s movement, his media aide, Omatsogunwa Jerry, said: “I don’t know. I cannot even respond right now. As it is, I don’t think I can respond right now,”

Attempts to speak to Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara’s Chief Press Secretary, were also unsuccessful as his mobile telephone line was unreachable yesterday.

But Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), said no law mandates the governor from resuming immediately.

“I am not his (Fubara) protocol officer. There is no law that says he must resume work today. He is a governor. I don’t understand the way we operate. Being sworn in today does not mean I will go to the office tomorrow. You don’t know what my programmes are. You don’t know where he is. Governance does not mean one must be in the office to govern,” he told Channels Television.

Pressed further on Fubara’s whereabouts, he had said: “I am not his Chief Security Officer. I am not his protocol officer.”
