The Benin Solidarity Movement (BSM) Worldwide, a Non-Governmental Organization and Non-Profit Making Social Cultural Pressure Group has appealed to His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, Executive Governor of Edo State to conduct proper investigation into the lingering crisis in Okpella Community in Edo North Senatorial District of the State.
Just as the Movement also appealed to His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II N’Ogidigan, Oba of Benin Kingdom who is the Head of the Traditional Institutions in the State to look critically into this matter, “for we will not fold our hands and allow some self-centered politicians destroy our Traditional Institution for their selfish interest right in our eyes and to avoid any community crisis in the State.”
These were disclosed in an appeal letter addressed to Governor Okpebholo and Oba Ewuare II, Oba of Benin Kingdom personally signed by Elder Comrade Curtis Eghosa Ugbo and Comrade Austin Okounghae, President and Secretary-General respectively of the Movement made available to journalists in Benin, the state capital.
The BSM members worldwide strongly frown at the situation going on in Okpella at the moment, “stated that it is sacrilegious and a taboo to the traditional institution in the state to coronate two persons to one traditional stool.
“And also there are issues official misappropriation by the newly installed Okuokpellagbe of Okpella who was allegedly accused of diverting and converting almost N1 Billion Naira Community royalty paid by some Multinational Companies operating in the Community and we hereby call on the concerned authorities to also investigate,” the statement added.
