The Aiguobasimwin Movement Worldwide, (AMW), a socio cultural group, on Fridaym, 21st November debunked the proposed increase in planned school fees increase by the management of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) which is being transmitted from one place to another by rumour mongers.

The group stated that the rumour being spread around is the handiwork of mischief-makers who doesn’t mean well for the University of Benin is aimed at creating unnecessary panic within the university community.

Addressing journalists in Benin, President of the Movement, Mr. Iyamu Osaro Culture, and Secretary-General, Mr. Osayuki-Osa Benson, said there was no truth in the speculation circulating on social media and other platforms.

According to them, “While we will not allow the shenanigans of some persons who doesn’t mean well for University of Benin to override the excellent performance of the current Vice Chancellor of the University, it is imperative to bring to the notice of the public the significant strides of the University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Edoba Bright Omoregie SAN who was appointed as the 11th Vice Chancellor in October 2024.”

The group assured the general public that  Prof. Edoba Bright Omoregie  as the Vice Chancellor is bet in fixing decayed infrastructures of the university to create a conducive learning environment, improving learning tools to boost academic excellence, employment of 500 staff (Academic and Non Academic) within a year, addressing staff shortages and boosting morale and prioritizing staff & student welfare.

The group queried that, “the School Portal has not been opened and how come some rumour mongers are circulating force information, adding that “the Vice Chancellor stands for the betterment of the school and the students.”

The movement commended the Vice Chancellor for what it described as significant strides since his appointment as the 11th Vice Chancellor in October 2024, noting that he has “hit the ground running with impressive initiatives.”

The group listed some of the achievement of Prof. Omoregie since he assumed Vice Chancellor of the University include the rehabilitation of dilapidated infrastructure to create a more conducive learning environment, improvement of learning tools to strengthen academic excellence, and the employment of 500 academic and non-academic staff within one year to address manpower gaps and boost staff morale.

It added that the administration has also prioritized the welfare of both staff and students, describing Prof. Omoregie as a seasoned academic and legal expert committed to transforming the institution.

The movement urged students, staff and stakeholders to disregard the rumours and continue to support the leadership of the university.

“It is sacrosanct to state that the rumour being spread around is the handiwork of mischief makers who doesn’t mean well for the University of Benin.

“As a seasoned academic and legal expert, Professor Edoba Bright Omoregie has brought his wealth of experience towards the transformation of the University of Benin,” the group added.
