The House of Representatives member representing Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Murphy Osaro Omoruyi, on Tuesday joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), after his resignation from the Labour Party (LP) in Edo State.
Reading the statement at a press conference which took place at the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), Edo State Council, Hon. Omoruyi disclosed that his defection is as a result of the intractable crises rocking the Labour Party and his continued stay in the party, practically impossible.
He said: “I, Honorable Murphy Osaro Omoruyi, Member representing Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, am pleased to have the opportunity to address you today on some key issues pertaining my political journey.
“You will recall that in February 2023, I was overwhelmingly elected by my constituents under the banner of the Labour Party (LP) to represent them at the National Assembly. Ever since, I have remained committed to the core responsibilities of lawmaking and oversight functions and ensuring that my constituency, Egor/Ikpoba-Okha is heard lowed and clear on the floor of the green chambers.

“In addition to this, I have also remained a loyal and committed party man. This fact is evident to the point that I was referred to as ‘The Last Man Standing’.
“All these is to buttress my stanch support for the Labour Party.
“However, inspite of all efforts, the intractable crises rocking Labour Party has made my continued stay in the party, practically impossible.”
Going further, Hon. Omoruyi added: “To this end, I wish to use this opportunity provided by this press briefing to let you know that a while ago, I joined the new coalition of the African Democratic Congress at the state secretariat at No. 188 Murtala Muhammed Way, Benin City. My joining the ADC coalition today, is sequel to my resignation from the Labour Party conveyed in a letter to my ward chairman, Ward 10, Egor Local Government Area on the 30th December, 2025 which has since been accepted.
“As I join the African Democratic Congress today, I pledge my full commitment to working with party leaders, coalition partners, and stakeholders to advance the cause of good governance and effective representation. Together, we will strengthen our democratic institutions and ensure that the voices of ordinary Nigerians are heard and respected.
“To my constituents, I reaffirm my unwavering loyalty to you. Your trust remains my guiding principle, and I assure you that this step is taken to better serve your interests and secure a brighter future for our constituency.
“I call on all well-meaning Nigerians, supporters of the coalition, and believers in positive change to join us on this journey. Together, let us continue to work for the Nigeria of our dreams.”
