Online journalists in Edo State, Nigeria under the umbrella of Edo Online Media Practitioners have inaugurated a new executive to pilot the affairs of the Association for the next three years, with a mandate to reposition digital news management in the state.
The officers were elected at its Congress held on Wednesday, 18th March, 2026, at the Secretariat of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Sir Gabriel Igbinedion Way, GRA., Benin City, the state capital.
The newly inaugurated executive members include Samuel Dada Ayokhai – Chairman, Charity Ozigbo-Esere — Vice chairman,
Chris Akhabue — Secretary,
Kingsley Abavo — Asst Secretary, Stephen Ehichoya Odion — Treasurer,
Monday Oise — Financial Secretary and
Lucky Isibor — Auditor.
A former Editor of the Nigerian Observer, Enahoro Eubaldus, who presided over the oath-taking, urged the new leadership to raise standards in digital journalism to match peers nationwide.
In a remark after taking the oath, Samuel Dada Ayokhai who was elected Chairman said the body would operate in line with the Constitution of. NUJ, meet members’ expectations, and seek stakeholders’ cooperation to secure online media’s rightful place in journalism.
Ayokhai paid tribute to pioneer chairman Otunba Mike Aladenikan, now image maker at Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, for laying the foundation of the body.
Thereafter, the Chairman inaugurated a standing Screening Committee, chaired by Comrade Eubaldus Enahoro, with Isaac Olamikan and Joseph Kanjo as members, to vet new applicants.
