Hundreds of residents were reportedly killed as scores injured when armed gunmen suspected to be bandits, invaded and attacked Woro Community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State on Tuesday evening, February 3, 2026.
The attack is coming three months after bandits attacked and invaded Christ Apostolic Church, Oke-Isegun, Eruku Zonal Headquarters, Ekiti Local Government Area of the state.
The Woro Community attack witnessed the killing of about 170 to 200 residents and burning of their houses and shops, including the palace of a traditional ruler.
The attack victims included the family of Johnson Okoro, his wife, Edith Okoro, including their four children; Caleb Chibueze Okoro, Joshua Chibuike Okoro, Victory Ifeanyi Okoro and Favour Chidiogor Okoro respectively.
The eldest son of the family, Godwin Chigozie Okoro, was lucky to have survived the attack as he escaped. A close family source to the victims name Izuchukwu Okoro cousin to Godwin Chigozie Okoro said the gunmen who were on motorcycles, started shooting sporadically at close range to people, adding that as at the time the combined team military personnel arrived the scene, the attackers had escaped.
He retorted that it was later being insinuated that one of the attackers had links with some youths who saw Godwin Chigozie Okoro as a man that usually advises them against these criminal activities in the locality.
The source added that the father and mother of Godwin Chigozie Okoro, were traders who own several shops where they do their businesses.
According to the source, the escape of Godwin Chigozie Okoro did not go down well as the attackers threatened to trail him anywhere he is seen for confronting them, insisting it was the anger that precipitated the killing of his parents including his siblings among others.
He insisted that as at press time, his whereabouts remain sketchy.
