Anxiety have engrossed parts of Edo State following reports that a massive snake, believed to be an anaconda, was sighted within the premises of Okomu Oil Palm.
The disturbing development surfaced after a viral video shared on Facebook showed the reptile lurking inside the plantation, triggering widespread concern among workers and visitors.
Dismissing claims that the footage was digitally manipulated, the publisher insisted the incident was real and urged sceptics to verify firsthand. “This is not artificial intelligence (AI), this is real. A live snake, believed to be an anaconda, has been spotted at Okomu Oil Palm Farm in Edo State, Nigeria,” the publisher stated.
He further warned that anyone familiar with the terrain would understand the gravity of the situation, stressing that such wildlife sightings are not unusual in the dense plantation environment.
Corroborating the claim, a former contractor with the company, Ilaboya Steve, recounted his own encounters with large snakes during his time at the facility. “Thank God say I nor deh work for Okomu again oo… When I was working there as a contractor, my boys and l saw many big snakes, even on top of trees,” he revealed.
The publisher urging the public to exercise caution when visiting the plantation. He maintained that the video was captured by an eyewitness and not generated by AI, calling on doubters to “take out time to visit Okomu Oil Palm” for clarity.
The development has heightened fears over safety within the plantation, with calls growing for management and relevant authorities to address potential wildlife threats and ensure adequate protective measures for workers and visitors.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the management of Okomu Oil Palm nor the Edo State government has issued a statement to address the incident.
