The Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has received with profound sadness and grief. the passing of Archbishop Most Rev Augustine Ahubeze. the Archbishop of the Catholic Achdhocese of Benin City , who was called to eternal glory on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
Archbishop Akubeze was a distinguished servant of God. an exemplary spiritual leader, and an unwavering voice for truth. justice, peace, and good govemance. Throughout his priestly and episcopal ministry, he devoted himself to the service of God and humanity, inspiring countless lives through his humility, wisdom, compassion, and steadfast commitment to righteousness.
His leadership of the Catholic Church in Benin City and beyond was marked by courage, integrity, and a deep concern for the welfare of the people.
The passing of Archbishop Akubeze is not only a great loss to the Catholic Church but also to Edo State and Nigeria. On a personal level, my immediate family and siblings are deeply saddened. He was always there for us. From attending our dear mother ‘ s funeral in Emu, to encouraging us to complete the church in the village and he was the first to call me after my then colleagues lifted their suspension. His moral voice, fatherly counsel, and unwavering commitment to truth will be sorely missed.
On behalf of our leaders, members, and supporters, the Edo State PDP extends its heartfelt condolences to the Catholic Archdiocese of Benin City, the Bishops, priests, religious.and lay faithful, his immediate family, and all who moum this painful loss.
We pray that Almighty God, whom he served so faithfully throughout his earthly pilgrimage, will grant his gentle soul eternal rest and comfort all who grieve his passing.
May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.
