A clergy, Evangelist Ebube Joseph has raised concerns over the humanitarian situation facing internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State following a visit to an IDP camp in the area.
In a video shared on his Facebook page that has since gone viral, the evangelist was seen interacting with displaced residents and appealing for urgent intervention, claiming the affected communities have been abandoned despite years of displacement.
Speaking after the visit, Joseph alleged that attacks by armed herdsmen, whom he described as Fulani terrorists, forced residents from 16 communities to flee their homes. According to him, the affected communities have remained displaced for about four years, with homes, businesses, and other means of livelihood destroyed.
He claimed that only about five percent of the displaced population is currently living in the camp, while the remaining residents have scattered to other parts of Enugu State and beyond in search of safety and survival.
“These people have been homeless for four years. There is no help. Their houses have been destroyed, their businesses have been ruined, and many cannot even feed themselves,” Joseph said in the video.
The evangelist also criticized what he described as government negligence, alleging that the displaced families have received little support despite years of hardship.
He appealed to the Federal Government, the Enugu State Government, the international community, the United Nations, humanitarian organizations, and well-meaning individuals to provide urgent relief and assistance to the displaced communities.
Joseph expressed hope that coordinated intervention would enable the affected families to rebuild their lives and eventually return to their communities.
