To help patients navigate the monotony of bed confinement, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu has provided a dedicated day room in Ward A4.
This non-clinical, shared space is designed to offer a homelike environment where walking patients can relax, socialize, read, and watch television.
By fostering interaction with patients from other wards and offering a much-needed break from individual hospital rooms, the new facility aims to significantly reduce feelings of isolation and boredom during recovery.
Prof. Ize-Iyamu underscored that this intervention is anchored in the belief that shared experiences accelerate healing, deliberately forging bridges between individuals across different bays and wards.
The day room is a convenient and comfortable space for patients to sit, gather during the day to relax, socialize, read, or watch television, and anchoring the patient’s recovery journey in an atmosphere of warmth, dignity, and shared humanity.
