Obaseki Gives Automatic Employment To 15 First Class University Student

The Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has given automatic employment to 15 first class grandaunts of the Edo State University, Uzairue into the Edo State Civil Service.

The governor who made this known at the 4th convocation ceremony of the university said that the 15 first class grandaunts have the choice of accepting the offer or not.

Gov. Obaseki while congratulating the Chancellor, Dr. Aderemi Makanjuola, Vice Chancellor and the management of the university for another successful academic year said the university has continued to brace the train of teaching and research in Nigeria.

According to him, “The government have in the last 6 year placed premium for education which has continued to implement transformational reforms in our basic educational sector, because we believe that the foundation on which education rest must be sold one”.

He said the vision for high education of learning in Edo State should be able to compete with the best in the world offering education that is relevant for temporary and functional, adding that it is such a delight that Edo State University is working assiduously towards meeting with this target and today, we are proudly hold scholars and academia that are proffering solutions to our society problems.

“This university has continued to report impressive milestones in its mark to self-reliance and sustainability, we are impressed with the growth so far attained and we believe that we still have a long way to go and should not rest on oars,” he asserted.

Mr. Obaseki however commended the university for finding one of its own and illustrious son of Edo State, Chief Abu Inu Umoru for the Honourary Doctorate Degree for his contributions and development of the state and Nigeria at large.

He extended his appreciation and gratitude to the Chancellor, Dr Aderemi Makanjuola for his continuous support and assistance to the university saying that his Convert Group have agreed to partner with the university to offer internship to the engineering students.

The governor urged all the grandaunts to be good ambassadors of the university and continue to uphold the virtues of integrity, uprightness and hard work which the school is known for.

In his opening speech, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Engr. Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor said Edo State University Uzairue has continued to stand out despite the prevalent situation of public universities in the country.

Prof. Aluyor said through a committed leadership coupled with proper response from staff members, the university has continued to gather laurels and accolades for accomplished feats as it has taken giant strides in the pursuance of world class goals in teaching, learning, and research and community engagement.

He revealed that this year’s convocation ceremony witnessed a total of 26 Masters, 9 PGD and 283 undergraduate students were found worthy in character and learning to be awarded the university’s degrees in their various disciplines.

He said among the 283 undergraduate students, 15 graduated with first class Honours, 120 with second class Honours (upper division), 102 with Second Class Honours (lower division) while 11 are Third Class Honours.

The VC added that the university has continued to witnessed increase in students enrollment as the public become more aware of the existence and what the university have to offer as the university started with 76 students in 2016 saying that in the 2022/2012 session, the university has admitted over 1000 students.

While congratulating the graduands, their parents and guardians, Prof. Aluyor however charged them to keep the flag of the university flying wherever they may go.

Highpoint of the ceremony was the conferment of Honourary Doctorate Degree to Chief Abu Inu Umoru and presentation of prizes to the best graduating students.
