NDDC Donates 9,426 Relief Materials To Assist Flood Victims in Edo

The Niger-Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has officially hand over relief materials to Edo State Government to assist affected persons and communities that lost their lives and means of livelihood in the state.
Recall that Edo State was part of the area submerged by flood as a result of
torrential rain which resulted in the River Niger overflowing its banks. Among the local government affected in Edo State are two local government in Edo North Senatorial District and one local government area in Edo Central Senatorial District.
These relief materials which are in two categories consists of Food and Non-Food components totalling 9,426 in number.
The items are 1,359 bags of rice; 675 cartons of noodles; 675 bags of beans; 675 bags of garri; 204 kilograms of salt; 69 cartons of milk, 69 cartons of beverage; 204 kilogram of sugar; 675 bottles of vegetable oil (3 litres); 102 cartons of seasoning cubes; 675 tins of tomatoes; 675 cartons of bottled water; 675 numbers of Nylon mats; 675 units of treated mosquito nets; 675 tablets of bathing soap; 339 numbers of mattress/pillows 339 numbers of blankets and 675° numbers of rubber slippers.
Presenting the items to Edo State government through the Hon. Commissioner Special Duties, Engr. Jonathan Lawani, a representative of the Ag. Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Niger-Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Engr. Dr. Emmmanuel Audu Ohwavborua and also the Director, Edo State Office of the Commission, Mrs. Mercy Babawale commiserate with Edo State government and the good people of Edo State over this unfortunate incident.
The Commission acknowledges the notable effort of the State Government in providing succour/relief to the affected Persons and Communities that lost their lives and means of livelihood.
According to Dr. Ohwavborua, “Well-meaning Nigerians and Organizations have since swung into action to provide relief and succour to victims of this unfortunate incidence.
“You will recall that the Honourable Minister of Niger-Delta Affairs Obong Umanah Okon Umanah had promised a comprehensive provision by the Federal Government to ameliorate the hardship of victims.
“It is on this note, the Niger-Delta Development Commission (NDDC) as an interventionist Agency resolved to compliment the effort of the State Government, though relatively delayed, due to some logistic challenges.
“We are here today to officially hand over our donations of 18 different items to the Government of Edo State. These items which are in two categories consists of Food and Non-Food components totalling 9,426 in number. Some items are perishable in nature and we desire that they get to the target beneficiaries which are the victims of the flood disaster in the shortest possible time.

Responding, the state government, through its Commissioner for Special Duties, Engr. Jonathan Lawani, assured the donor that the items would be delivered to those affected by the flood.
He thanked the Commission for putting the state in focus adding that the relief materials would go a long way in ameliorating the suffering of the affected individuals in the state.
