Alleged Obi’s Endorsing Osarodion Ogie As Edo 2024 LP Candidate: Fake News To Deceived Edo People – Publicity Secretary

Edo State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has dissociated itself from social media trending publication that Mr. Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate of February 25 general election “Thank You Visit” to the state was an alliance with Governor Godwin Obaseki to endorse Barr. Osarodion Ogie, the Secretary to Edo State Government for Governor 2024.
Recall Mr. Peter Obi and the National Leadership of Labour Party led by Barr. Julius Abure on March 11, 2023 visited Edo State for ‘Thank You Visit’ to Edo people for coming out to vote for Mr. Peter Obi and other candidates in the February 25 General Elections.
In a press statement issued and signed by Comrade Sam Uroupa, State Publicity Secretary of the party, appealed to the good people of Edo State to disregard such publication as is meant to deceived the general public.
The statement reads, “RE: Peter Obi’s Unholy Alliance With Gov. Obaseki Exposed As He Endorses Osarodion Ogie, the Secretary to Edo State Government for Governor 2024.
“The attention of the Edo State Labour Party (LP) has been drawn to the baseless, malicious, fallacious and unfounded rumour with the above caption trending in the social media space since after the “Thank You Visit” to Edo people by the President in Waiting, Mr. Peter Obi and the National Leadership of the LP led by its National Chairman, Barr. Dr. Julius Abure on Saturday, 11th March, 2023.
“To say the least, the write up is only fit for the dustbin as it is completely untrue, fake and barbaric. It is a figment of the imaginations of the writers.
“Ordinarily, Edo LP would not have responded to the said rumour because, in the first place, it has no author and thus, does not worth given any attention. However, for the reading public not to be bamboozled with concocted falsehoods to smear the high reputation of our principal, the President in Waiting, Mr. Peter Obi who is an embodiment of the cooperate image of the new “Political Order” in the sub-Sahara Africa and as the global face of “Africa Unity” and for the undented image of Barr. Dr. Julius Abure, the Leader of the emerging largest Political Party in Africa. We deem it fit to make the following few clarifications:
“Those who have known Mr. Peter Obi will attest to the fact that he is a true democrat, and so while leaving office as Governor in his own Anambra State, he did not imposed his successor on the people. Therefore, of what use is he coming to impose someone on Edo people?
“It is a public knowledge that Edo State Government led by Mr. Godwin Obaseki practically worked against the presidential ambition of Mr. Peter Obi by denying the Edo LP the use of public facilities to host him. Where then is the said alliance coming from?
“It is also in the public domain, when Mr. Governor was inaugurating his factional State PDP Presidential Campaign Council, he did said that “those who call themselves the obedient family will soon run out of steam”. This is a clear statement of fact that he never wished LP well in Edo State but prayed for its demise.”
Going further, Comrade Uroupa added: “To set the record straight, Mr. Peter Obi came for an “Appreciation and Thank You Visit” to Party Faithful, Members of the Obedient Movement and the entire people of Edo State for giving him overwhelming support during the Presidential election. Edo State gave him over 70% vote which is far above the required 25% votes from each State.
“Mr. Peter Obi also came to assure Edo people and his teaming supporters not to be discouraged about his stolen mandate as he is set to claim it back for them.
“In addition, Mr. Peter Obi came to plead with the good people of Edo State to support and vote for all “House of Assembly Candidates” come Saturday, 18th March, 2023.
“Mr. Peter Obi immediately, after leaving the venue of the ‘Appreciation and Thank You Visit’ went straight to the airport and departed to Lagos State on a similar mission.
“It is therefore laughable for anybody to have said that the Presidential candidate of the LP, Mr. Peter Obi came to struck a deal with Gov. Godwin Obaseki to endorse Barr. Osarodion Ogie as Governorship candidate of LP come 2024.
“We want to state it categorically clear that Mr. Peter Obi did not visit Edo State government house nor Mr. Godwin Obaseki and Barr. Osarodion Ogie for any alliance. The LP candidates are also not being sponsored or given any money by Mr Godwin Obaseki led administration. The rumour is only being sponsored by the enemies of LP who felt threatened by the SWELLING POPULARITY of the party.
“Therefore, we plead with all edolites and obedient supporters to come out en masse and vote for all LP (papa, mama, pikin) House of Assembly Candidates across the State”.
