WORLD MALARIA DAY: Edo Govt, WHO Sensitizes Public On The Causes, Prevention, Control Of Disease

As Nigeria joined the rest of the world to mark this year 2023 World Malaria Day, Edo State Ministry of Health in conjunction with the World Health Organization (WHO) has organised awareness and sensitization campaign across the eighteen (18) of the State to enlighten the public on the causes, prevention and control of malaria in their local government areas.

The team visited the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp at Uhogua, Upper Siluko Road in Ovia North-East local government area of Edo State.

While educating members of the IDP on how to prevent malaria within their environment, the team from the Department of Public Health, Malaria Unit, Edo State Ministry of Health said it is a day set aside annually at the Africa Summit of 2000, to create awareness on Malaria and sensitize the public on the causes.

They opined that this year world malaria day commemoration with the Theme: “Time to Deliver Zero Malaria: Invest, Innovate and Implement” and the slogan is “Act Now” is to create awareness among members of the IDP camp on how to prevent and control the malaria within their environment.

On the entourage were members of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) who also engaged its members to celebrate World Malaria Day 2023.

About 4,000 in the IDP camp benefitted during the sensitization exercise.

Items donated to the IDP camp were Malaria Rapid Diagnostics Test (RDT) Kits, Sulfadoxine – Pyrimethamine, Fertility regulator calculator. Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Materials.

The Ministry of Health team also carried out Free Malaria Testing, treatment for confirmed cases and chemo prevention.

Pastor Evelyn Omijie, the Camp Coordinator appreciated the organizers and thanked the Edo State government for remembering the Internally Displaced Persons at their camp.

She also used the medium to solicit for more government support especially in the area of Health.
