A former Ikpoba Okha Local Government Council Chairmanship Candidate on the platform of Labour Party (LP), Dr. Mashido Eghaghe has emphasized that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party have a rare and significant opportunity to break away from the shortcoming of the past by establishing a new standard of governance that prioritizes equal opportunity and social justice for all.

The9JaTREND Reports that Dr. Eghaghe stated this in his open letter addressed to the National Working Committee of the party.

According to him, the current delegates allocation system, which assigns 5 Delegates to each local government area of Edo State disproportionately favours one section and disenfranchises others, therefore contradicting our party’s motto of “Equal Opportunity and Social Justice”.

He noted: “Local government areas with high populations typically have more delegates to ensure representation proportional to their population. This allows for a more accurate reflection of the diverse views and interests within the larger community. As an emerging political party, we have positioned ourselves to rescue Nigeria from outdated practices and unfair systems. Now is the time to demonstrate our commitment to true democracy and equal opportunity.”

The former LP Chairmanship candidate therefore advised the NWC Members to show Nigerians that the party truly represent the people’s aspirations, noted that proportional delegate allocation based on population will ensure a more accurate reflection of diverse views and interests within the larger community. By doing so, he added we can break away from the status quo and prioritize the people’s interests above all else.

“This is our chance to prove our social democratic principles and achieve social justice. Let us not systematically zone out any zone in Edo. Instead, let us embrace inclusivity and fairness, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of all Edo people,” he added.
