An uncle of the embattled brothers, Mr. Friday Igbinovia who disclosed this to newsmen in Benin City, said the two brothers were lucky to have escaped assassination on the fateful day.

He said the barking of a dog in the compound was what saved the two brothers as they quickly noticed the unusual movement of some persons in the vicinity of their home and escaped through the back door into the nearby bush.

“Initially, they thought it was a case of armed robbery, but the invaders who were masked and armed with guns, battle axes and other dangerous weapons did not remove anything from the house after they had gained entry into the building”, he said.

He said the two brothers had been enmeshed in a tussle with a traditional ruler over a vast parcel of land owned by their late father, Mr. John Igbinovia. He alleged that the traditional ruler (name withheld) had threatened on a number of occasions to deal ruthlessly with the two brothers if they continue to lay claim to the parcel of land which is said to contain largeq deposits of bauxites.

He said the incident was reported to the police but unfortunately, no arrest has been made.

He said given the precarious security situation in the country, the two brothers and their families have gone into hiding to safeguard their lives.
