Court Grants Mother With Two Kids Bail Over Fraudulent Act By Police Personnel In Edo

A magistrate court sitting in Benin City, Edo State has granted Mrs. Hannah Egharevba with her two underaged children bail for reporting alleged extortion and fraudulent act by police personnel of the Ekiadolor Police Division to “Bail Is Free Campaign Group.”

In a petition on behalf of Mrs. Hassan Egharevba to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, The Nigeria Police Force, Zone ‘5’ Headquarters, Benin City, the Administrative Publicity Secretary (APS ).
lki-Esiolee David O. for and on behalf of Omobude Solomon O. and Co., noted that a mother with her underaged children was re-detained by Ekiadolor Police Division for reporting to Bail Is Free Campaign Group over extortion and fraudulent act by officers of the Ekiadolor Police Division.

According to lki-Esiolee, the said mother reported case of extortion by some police officers, DPO and IPO in Ekiadolor Divisional police headquarter to BAIL IS FREE CAMPAIGN GROUP, that the sum of (N20,000) Twenty Thousand Naira was allegedly collected as bail by IPO and the sum of (N5,000) Five Thousand Naira was allegedly collected at the counter by DPO as settlement.

“Upon this report, members of BAIL IS FREE CAMPAIGN GROUP intervened to inform the Ekiodalor Police Division that the bail money should be refund back to the mother.

“With this development the DPO picked offence, angrily re-arrest the mother that she went to Inform. BAIL IS FREE CAMPAIGN GROUP, over bailed money.”

It would be recalled that previously she was detain with her under aged children at the counter while the police granted her bail with a reliable surety. she was subsequently charged to Magistrate Court, Sapele road the next day.

After court proceedings she was granted bail with a reliable surety by the Court with the effort of Barr. Omobude Solomon O. and the matter was adjourned to 30th September 2024 for further hearing.
