In a statement, Oligbi-Edeko, said Nigeria’s independence signified freedom, self-sacrifice, love for our nation, unity, the power of collective will and the right to choose who governs us.

“Today, we come together not only to celebrate the birth of our great nation but also to reflect on the journey we have collectively traveled as a people.

“For us in Edo State, it also symbolizes our resilience, right to self-determination, our fight against slavery, and unwavering commitment to progress.

“We are a proud people, known for our culture, intellect, and industrious spirit. Together, we have contributed to the growth and development of our nation.

“As we commemorate this day, I encourage all of us to renew our dedication to the ideals of democracy, peace, unity, and love for our country above self-interest.

“Let us continue to strive for a society that is equitable, where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

She added that government remained committed to ensuring the well-being and prosperity of all Edo people through legislative actions that foster development and justice.

“While we acknowledge the challenges we face as a nation, let us be reminded that our strength lies in our diversity.

“Together, we can overcome these challenges and build a brighter future for our children and generations to come.

“I reaffirm my commitment to serving you with integrity, transparency, and dedication. Let us all remain hopeful and optimistic as we work together to uplift our dear state and nation.

“Happy Independence Day, and may God continue to bless Edo State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” she said.
