Gunmen Invade Home, Kill Man, Rape Daughter

Gunmen suspected to be cultists have invaded house No 3, Adolor Street, Benin City, Edo State capital killing the owner of the house, Mr. Gabriel Obasuyi and also allegedly raped his only daughter, identified as Grace Obasuyi. The incident is said to have occurred in the late hours of February 10, 2016.
According to information gathered from some occupants of the house, a group of gunmen had earlier on February 5, 2016 stormed the house in search of the deceased’s son, Osayamen Obasuyi who incidentally was not at home at the time.
The deceased was said to have lodged a report with the police, saying his life and that of his family was in danger.
Narrating the incident and the ordeal they went through on the fateful day, one of the occupants of the house said: “On the night of February 10, 2016, at about 8pm, we heard some persons banging the door. They broke down the wooden door with an axe, forcibly entered the house and immediately ordered everybody to lie down. One of them who is apparently the leader of the group was shouting, “Where is Osayamen? Where is Osayamen?”
“His sister Grace was crying profusely, she told them that her brother had not been at home for some days now. Just then, they dragged her on the floor to the back of the house where she was raped. Then, her father who heard her crying pleading with them to let her go, stood up to possibly intervene.
“Just then, one of the gunmen shot at him point blank. He fell and was bleeding badly. We were all panicking and scared to death. Grace was crying, asking why, why. Then the leader of the group who raped her said, ‘we have done to you what your brother did. This is just the beginning, we will be back again.
“Immediately after the shooting, they left the building and zoomed off in their waiting car parked on the street close to the house. We tried to rush our landlord to the hospital, but he died before we could put him in the vehicle.
“The police came later that night, hours after the gunmen had left. They asked a few questions and left.”
It was further gathered that the killing was not unconnected with the raging cult war which has claimed over 10 lives for the past two weeks.
The deceased’s son who was the target of the gunmen, is believed to be a member of a rival cult group fighting for supremacy and vengeance in the city.
Meanwhile, the police says they are investigating the killing of Mr. Gabriel Obasuyi and the alleged raping of his only daughter.
“On the night of 10th February, 2016 at about 23hrs, there was a distress call that gunmen had attacked occupants of a house on Adolor Street, Benin City. A patrol team was ordered to go to the area. However, the team could not locate the exact place on time, they got there after the hoodlums had fled the scene of crime. Unfortunately, one person was killed and a young lady whom we understand is the daughter of the deceased was allegedly raped. A team of detectives are currently investigating the incident with a view to unraveling those behind the dastardly act and bring them to book”, the police spokesperson, ASP. Dawuda Ahmed told our crime reporter in his office yesterday.
