Justice G, Imadegbelo of the Edo State Criminal High Court 2 has struck out a murder case between Commissioner of Police Versus Isaiah Akpani ‘male, aged 28 who is facing trial on the cold blooded murder of Sunny Etchie, the Okaeghele of Kolokolo Community in Ologbo Dukedom of Ikpoba Okha local government area of Edo state.

But a member of Vigilante group, (who does not want his name in print), said, “Isaiah Akpani, the suspect was arrested at Ologbo Community a year after hiding and during interrogation had confessed to the crime.”

Isaiah Akpani is among the suspects that went into hiding after the murder of late Sunny Etchie last year.

He was eventualy arrested after a year in hiding and brought to Court
on Charge Sheet No. B/CD/ 1116M/ 2021, pursuant to Section 294 and 296 of the Administration of Edo Criminal Justice Law of Edo State 2016.

The suspect was being arraigned for the kidnapping, murder of Sunny Etchie, the Okaeghele of Kolokolo Community in Ologbo Dukedom of Ikpoba OK ha local government area of Edo State, an offence punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code Act, Cap (38, Law of Federation of Nigeria 2004.

When the matter came up today 22nd September, 2021 for hearing, the State Counsel informed the court that, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), has advised that the suspect be released as he has no case to answer, as a result, a case of no submission was applied.

Based on the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), the Presiding Judge, Hon. Justice G. Imadegbelo then struck out the case.

Speaking with newsmen after the hearing, Barr. Emmanuel Idahosa Counsel to late Sunny Etchie family, said the DPP has advised a case of no submission and Hon. Justice G . Imadegbelo on that bases has to struck out the case.

But reacting, a member of Vigilante group, (who does not want his name in print), said, “Isaiah Akpani, the suspect was arrested in Ologbo a year after hiding and said that the alleged suspect had earlier confessed to the crime.

According to him, “Isaiah Akpani on interview with ITV Benin confessed to the crime of killing Sunny Etchie, and the tape is still there to confirm Akpani’s confession.”

“How come DPP set Akpani free. Was the rules of Law followed or Justice was perverted? The general public desire to know,” he said.
