His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolor, Oba Ewuare II has commended Comrade Festus Alenkhe led executive of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State Council for the laudable achievements recorded in a shot space of time. The Oba also backed the Union on robust, ethical and professional practice of journalism in the state and Nigeria at large.

Oba Ewaure II said self regulation and discipline are the bedrock of journalism profession.

The royal father made the remarks when the new executive led by Comrade Festus Alenkhe and leaders on a courtesy visit to the Oba at his palace in Benin city.

Oba Ewaure II who described journalists as tool for development, affirmed palace full support for Comrade Festus Alenkhe led exco to succeed in his bid to sanitize journalism practice in the state.

The Oba promised to immediately set up information team that would work with Edo State NUJ chairman to achieve the establishment of the proposed “Benin Royal Journal Magazine”.

“I am amazed on the monthly publication you mentioned and l am ready to work with you to ensure that you succeed. I have the mind to float a newspaper when l ascended the throne, but the activities at the palace took most of my time. Feel free to come direct to me for any assistance to actualise this dream,” the Oba emphasized

Earlier, the NUJ chairman, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, told the monarch that they were at his palace to formally inform him (Oba) of the new leadership of Edo NUJ since December 17 last year (2021).

He explained that his administration has begun a total clean up of the profession in order to eradicate quackery and professional misconduct in the state.

Comrade Alenkhe posited that Edo NUJ was keen to collaborate with the monarch to develop the state through effective and accurate reportage.

While highlighting some of the achievements of Oba Ewuare II since ascending the throne of his forebears, the NUJ chairman pledged unalloyed loyalty of Edo journalists to the palace.

The atmosphere was however lighted up when the Oba announced new year packages for journalists.

The general manager of Bronze FM, Mrs. Abimbola Oyetunde was amongst NUJ top leaders at the courtesy visit.
