Zone 5 Police Command Mourns Late AIG Lawan Tanko Jimeta
…Describes his death as a great and painful loss to the entire Nigeria Police Force

The Zone 5 Police Command Headquarters, Benin City, Edo State has described the death of AIG Lawan Tanko Jimeta as a painful loss to the entire Nigeria Police Force.
In a press statement issued and signed by DSP Tijani Momoh, Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 5 Headquarters, Benin, City, said AIG Lawan Tanko Jimeta, who passed on in the early hours of 12th February, 2023, at the age of 58, after a brief Illness at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City, Edo State.
Part of the release reads, “With a heavy heart and deep sense of loss, regrets to announce the sad demise of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 5 Headquarters, Benin City, comprising Delta and Edo State Police Command, AIG Lawan Tanko Jimeta, psc, who passed on in the early hours of 12th February, 2023, at the age of 58 years, after a brief Illness at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City, Edo State.
“The late AIG Zone 5 Benin enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on 3rd March, 1990 and was trained in the Nigeria Police Academy Annex, Kaduna State. He rose through the ranks to the enviable position of an Assistant Inspector-General of Police.
“He once served as Commissioner of Police, Police Mobile Force, Force Headquarters Abuja, Commissioner of Police, Edo State Police Command, Benin City, Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Police Command, Bauchi, he was thereafter redeployed as the 21st Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State. Where he was later promoted to the prestigious rank of an Assistant Inspector-General of Police and redeployed as the AIG Zone 5 Benin, the position he held until his unfortunate demise after a brief illness.
“The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Finance and Administration, DCP Betty Otinmeyin, mnips, on behalf of the management team, entire Officers and Men of the Zone commiserates with the Jimeta family of Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State, the Government and good People of Adamawa state on the passage onto glory of their illustrious son, AIG Lawan Tanko Jimeta, psc.
“May his gentle Soul Rest in the bosom of the Almighty God and the Good Lord grant his family the fortitude to bear this great and painful loss.”
Meanwhile, a condolence register has been opened at the reception of the Zonal Command Headquarters in Benin City for the personnel of the Zone and members of the public to append their condolence message.
