Democracy Day: Yakubu Urges Nigerians To Be Steadfast
By Simeon OSAJIE
A former Council Chairman and governorship hopeful in Edo State, Hon. John Yakubu has admonished Nigerians to continue to be focused on building a nation of their dreams that would be entrenched in equity, justice and fairness.
In his June 12 message, which he made available to news men in Benin, Hon. John Yakubu said such focused attention will not only help the nation to achieve success in its democratic journey, nevertheless will also help in withstanding any societal challenge that might arise.
“The present democratic dispensation we are enjoying today was as a result of the immense sacrifice made by late MKO Abiola, the winner of the June 12 1993 election. So we need resilience and steadfastness like MKO Abiola and others who stood against tyranny, those whose blood were used to water the tree of our democracy,” he said.
The 2024 governorship aspirant added that, “democracy is a process that requires the participation of citizens of the nation as to enhance good governance, justice, equity, freedom, growth and development.
“I wish every citizen of Nigeria, particularly Edo State, happy Democracy Day celebration.”
