Pa Edebiri who died and was buried in 2021 was said to have been allegedly stolen from the graveside 24 hours after the burial ceremony.

The Zone 5 Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tijani Momoh said, flowing from the petition received from some children of the Late Pa Anthony Edebiri, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 5, Benin City directed men of the Homicide Department of the Zone to immediately commence investigation.

According to DSP Tijani Momoh, police has arrested two suspects; one Kingsley Osagie and Ekiuwa Igbe who were interrogated over the invasion of the grave side and the stealing of the dead body.

The Zone 5 imagemaker stated that, the suspects denied any knowledge of the whereabouts of the dead body exhumed from the grave.

He added that the police is now worried that the body is yet to be recovered.

However, current police findings revealed that some persons are now trying to arrange another burial ceremony for the late man. This information prompted the police to tighten their investigation as the mortuary where the body was kept has been discovered.

The police has since written a letter to the management of the mogue to request for proper briefing on the controversial situation for clarification.

It was revealed that the situation has heightened tension in the Edebiri family on Mission Road in Benin City as some persons in the family do not want another burial ceremony as they call on the police to help them recover the stolen dead body.

The family members had claimed that a proper burial has been done and are only looking forward to two years remembrance ceremony and not a second burial ceremony.
