…Says Lady Pharmacists play pivotal role in reshaping healthcare delivery in Edo

Wife of Edo State Governor, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki has declared open the 16th Biennial Conference of the Association of Lady Pharmacists (ALPs), holding in Benin City, Edo State capital with the theme “Pharmacy: Making Healthcare Impact in Tandem With 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.”

In her remarks, Mrs. Obaseki who was represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Sandra Godwins Omobayo Marvelous, said that the role of lady pharmacists has become more pivotal in reshaping healthcare delivery in the State.

The conference is expected to end on Saturday 18th May, 2024.

In her welcome address, the National Chairman of ALPs, Pharm. Scholastical Mnena Lan said since the birth of the Association in 1988, every two years we have consistently held conferences hosted by States of the Federation to give a sense of representation of our great and hardworking colleagues spread across different practice settings. We are conscious of our diversity and so make it a priority to experience different climes for a better understanding and appreciation of our rich culture and uniqueness as a people.

“The Association is an interest group of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria with a membership in all States of the Federation and the FCT. Our membership also includes those in Diaspora united with us to advance professionalism and service to humanity. We are specialized professionals practicing in these areas namely: Community, Academia. Pharmaceutical Industries, Hospital and Administrative, Regulatory Agencies, Public Health/Humanitarian services and Politics.”

Going further she added that the nation is plagued with a high burden of health care needs and much of healthcare delivery is dependent on the quality of healthcare products and commodities.

“The adoption of the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development opened new opportunities to work towards healthy outcomes for all through government and society/community approaches.” she added.

Chairman of the Central Planning Committee (CPC), Dr. Rametu Momodu said that the theme for this year’s conference underscores the pivotal role lady pharmacists in shaping the future of healthcare while contributing to global sustainable goals.

According to her, the conference theme mphasizes the essence of embracing change and innovation, recognizing challenges as opportunities for growth.

In her keynote address, Vice Chancellor, University of Benin, Professor Lilian Salami underscores the importance of pharmacists in the society.

According to her, pharmacists play pivotal role in advancing Goal 3 of the Millennium Development Goals. Such role, she said include, censuring access to essential medicines and optimizing medication use to improve health care.

She noted that pharmacists are critical in managing supply chain and ensuring the availability of essential medicines, a fundamental aspect of Universal Health coverage.

At the end of the event, the National Chairman of ALPs, Pharm. Scholastical Mnena Lan led Mrs. Sandra Godwins Omobayo Marvelous, wife of Deputy Governor of Edo State on pharmaceutical exhibition tour.
