The Edo State chapter of Labour Party (LP) has condemned in strongest terms the resort to attacks between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the ongoing political campaigns in the state.

The9jaTREND reports that in a press statement signed by LP State Publicity Secretary of the party, Comrade Sam Uroupa, said this barbaric behaviour is a stark reminder of their desperation to cling to power at all costs, even if it means shedding the blood of innocent citizens.

According to him, the recent violent clashes and attacked on political opponents, security agents, journalists, and innocent civilians by thugs sponsored by these two parties against each other are a clear indication of their disdain for democracy and human life.

“Their actions are a gross violation of the peaceful and democratic principles that our great party, Labour Party and it’s candidates Barr. Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata and and his running mate Alhaji Yusuf Asamah Kadiri (SAN) represents.”

While urging Edo people to reject these violent and undemocratic parties, Comrade Sam Uroupa urged Edo people to embrace the Labour Party, which has consistently demonstrated its commitment to peaceful and issue-based politics.

“Our party is built on the principles of social justice, equality, and the well-being of all citizens, not just a selected few or godfathers.” he added.

Going further, the LP SPS added yesterday’s violent acts involving these two political parties around the Benin Airport and parts of the GRA where innocent lives were lost posed a serious threat to peaceful elections in the State.

While calling on the security agencies to urgently investigate these violent incidents and bring the perpetrators to justice in order to make the September 21st governors election peaceful, Comrade Uroupa appealled to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take decisive action against APC and PDP and ensure a level playing field for all political parties.
