Court Dismisses Engr. Mudiaga’s Right Appeal In High-Profile Suicide Case

An Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City, the state capital has dismissed a fundamental human rights application brought against the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Assistant Inspector General of Police, (AIG), Zone 5, Edo State Commissioner of Police, (CP), Department of State Service (DSS) and other security agencies by the Engineer Chukwudi Mudiaga.
The said Engineer Chukwudi Mudiaga had approached the High Court for a ruling to enforce his fundamental human right to prevent the Police, Department of State Service from arresting or harassing him over the case of aiding suicide brought against him by the police.
Recall Mrs. Lilian Omokhuale, daughter of the Managing Director of Uyi Technical Company Ltd. committed suicide on 7th October, 2022.
This situation forced the police to launch an extensive investigation into the incident which drew a wide outcry.
Investigation however revealed that the suicide action was allegedly aided by some persons which include Engineer Chukwudi Mudiaga over financial transactions.
After the completion of investigation, six suspects including Engineer Chukwudi Mudiaga were arraigned in a Federal High Court sitting in Benin City for aiding suicide.
There was a turn of event as the said Engineer Chukwudi Mudiaga approached a Benin High court to enforce a fundamental human right.
In his ruling in Benin city, the vacation judge , Hon Justice Igho Braimoh dismissed the application and advised the petitioner to face the Federal high court case now ongoing.
Speaking after the ruling, counsel to Mr Omoruyi Oloton, the Managing Director of Uyi Technical Ltd, Olayiwola Afolabi (SAN) said , it is now time to concentrate on the aiding suicide case at the Federal High Court.
