Speaking from his village residence in Uromi, headquarters of Esan North-East Local Government Area, where he is spending the holidays, the University Don in the institution said that he has known Chief Orbih for decades as a Chief Anenih thoroughly trained politician, who has metamorphosed to an indefatigable leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo and Nigerian as a whole.

He said that there is nothing Chief Orbih has put his hands that does not flourish, noting that with this appointment, Gov. Monday Okpebholo has shown once again that he means well for the University, and assured members of the University community that it will soon be uhuru for them all.

Dr. Igberaese advised the Chief Orbih led Governing Council to focus on Research and Developments, by funding research outputs for the benefits of the society as a whole.

According to him, “The new Governing Council Chairman and his crew should hold the ideal of the University founding fathers very tightly in high esteem. It is majorly for teaching and research in order to develop the human capital of the poor. This development of the poor must be held sacrosanct and never to compare the University with others that are designed for the rich.

“The major key to eradicating poverty is access to education and that is why education and health are the two merit goods that must be available to, and accessible by, both the rich and the poor.

“The University Lecturers are doing a lot of reseach but these have not been translated into practical outcomes to help the society because of the lack of funding and unwillingness of the political leaders to base our development on research outcomes.

‘I employ the new men to change this and make their marks in this regard. As a Lecturer in the University, I can guarantee that the teaching/learning aspect at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels has managed to be going well despite the funding limitations, which would be ameliorated by the recent governor Okpebholo’s restoration of the monthly subvention at N500m.

“The staff, particularly the teaching staff who are 24 hours engaged in teaching, research and community service must be well motivated by the Governing Council.”

Going further, the University Don urged the new Governing Council to work with the different professional bodies in the different fields existing in the the University, which he believes are the real avenues for boosting research outcomes. He then wishes the Chairman and his crew well.
