Following the release of the recently kidnapped of Esan West Local Government Party Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a frontline Edo Central Senatorial Aspirant on the platform of the PDP, Hon. John Yakubu has called on Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to redouble efforts aimed at tackling insecurity in the state, particularly kidnapping.

Yakubu, a former chairman of Esan North-East Local Government Council, appealed to the governor to march words with action in his commitment to tackling the insecurity through decisive and inclusive leadership as number one citizen of the state.

Yakubu made the call in a statement to draw the government’s attention to the spate of insecurity as well as felicitate with Hon. Andrew Ikhajiengbe, PDP chairman of Esan West, on his unconditional release from captivity.

Andrew Ikhajiengbe, the PDP chairman of Esan West, was kidnapped on May 5 by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on his way to the farm.

While thinking God Almighty for the release of Andrew Ikhajiengbe from his abductors, Yakubu advised the governor not only to talk tough but backed his words with a genuine consultative effort, drawing the attention and input of political, religious, and traditional leaders, as well as security chiefs.

He welcomed an inclusive approach in the fight against crime and criminality in the state, noting that the move will address the insecurity ravaging every nook and cranny of the state.

“Community-based vigilante groups have, in the past, proven their ability to work in synergy with state security agencies to protect lives and property. This is the ideal time to formalize community policing through a revitalised vigilante group,” he said.
