Edo State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Paul Ohonbamu has said that Governor Monday Okpebholo and his Deputy, Dennis Idahosa are not abandoning their duties but rather engaging in diplomatic and economic activities across the country and abroad which will benefit Edo State and the people in the long run.

The Commissioner disclosed this in a statement in Benin to put the records straight from the disjointed press release of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) Spokesman, Chris Nehikhare.

Earlier, the state PDP spokesperson, Nehikhare accused Governor Monday Okpebholo and his deputy, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, who he said have abandoned the State for foreign trips without any clear direction or handover arrangement.

According to Nehikhare, “This reckless dereliction of responsibility has plunged Edo into a dangerous leadership vacuum at a time when citizens are groaning under economic hardship, worsening insecurity, and stalled public services – direct consequences of the ineptitude of the APC-led administration at both the federal and state levels.”

In his response, Hon. Ohonbamu said that Governor Okpebholo and his Deputy will never abandon their duties because they have sworn to improve the living standards of Edo people.

While advising the PDP to stop crying wolf where there is non, Ohonbamu noted that the commissioner-nominees are essential to addressing various sectors in Edo State. These appointments will bring diverse expertise and perspectives to governance.

“The acquisition of SUVs for commissioners is a necessary investment for efficient governance, considering the current state of roads and security challenges in Edo.

“This is a standard requirement for official vehicles and as for the cost, the PDP should stop exaggerating and speculating.

“From the first week of Governor Okpebholo in office, Edo people are aware that he took deliberate steps to enhance security in Edo State, including providing 300 motorcycles and Security Vehicles to security agencies and reorganizing the Edo State Security Corps. The Governor is still making investments in this area continuously. These initiatives and others demonstrates his commitment to tackling insecurity.

“The administration is working to improve infrastructure, including roads, building of the first flyover bridge to facilitate economic growth and development and the government prioritizes workers’ welfare, ensuring timely payment of salaries and entitlements.

“We urge the PDP and other stakeholders to collaborate with the Governor Okpebholo led Administration to address Edo State’s challenges.

“The PDP should desist from spreading fake news to remain relevant, because they are now sounding like a broken record in the ears of Edo people with the condemnation of the Governor Okpebholo administration.

“By working together, we can achieve development and progress for the benefit of all Edo people,” the Commissioner added.
