The group in a statement signed by its President, Mr. Iyamu Osaro Culture, Mr. Osayuki-Osa Benson – General Secretary and Mr. Monday Ohuimumwen JP – Diaspora Coordinator made available to The9jaTREND in Benin City, the state capital expressed deep regret that the much-publicized Edo State Vigilante Security Corps/VSCTF has, in many areas, deviated from its core mandate.

According to the Movement, “Reports indicate they now function more as messengers, personal bodyguards, and garage touts rather than as community policing agents.”

The Movement who also note with concern the daily influx of persons/fulanis through the Benin-Auchi-Okene-Abuja road into Edo State, whose activities have been reported to be inimical to the lives and property of Edo people urged the Edo Government to initiate proactive steps to address and manage their influx.

The group further advise Governor Monday Okpebholo to reintroduce the Neighborhood Watch Scheme and create sustainable Empowerment Programs for Edo youth.

“Security is a fundamental responsibility of government and a matter of life and death. It must therefore be handled with seriousness, professionalism, and devoid of ethnicities colouration. Edo people deserve a security system built on merit, competence, and fair representation,” the Movement added.

The Movement further urged Governor Okpebholo to act swiftly in repositioning the security framework for the good of all Edo people.
