The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu, on Tuesday July 21, 2026 addressed participants at the three-day NIDCOM Diaspora Medical Health Impact Initiative event in Benin, tagged “Endometriosis Ultrasound National Capacity Building Program for Gynecologists, Radiologists, Sonographers, and Reproductive Health Practitioners,” emphasizing the importance of applying the knowledge acquired during the training to enhance patient care.
Speaking at the program organized by UBTH in partnership with the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (FMoH), Prof. Ize-Iyamu highlighted the critical role of trainers and participants in advancing quality healthcare delivery through enhanced capacity training and education.
The CMD added that the three-day training focused on enhancing the skills of gynecologists, radiologists, sonographers, and reproductive health practitioners, and was organized in collaboration with the Nigerian Medical Association and the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
She encouraged all stakeholders and participants to play an active role in advancing the nation’s health sector through meaningful collaboration and impactful contributions, while expressing profound appreciation to the Honourable Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, and the Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, for their unwavering support, visionary leadership, and steadfast commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system.
In his speech, President, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Prof. Afekhide Omoti commended Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission for its visionary leadership in fostering meaningful engagement between Nigeria and her citizens across the globe.
Prof. Omoti said their contributions to global healthcare continue to earn respect for the country and exemplify the exceptional capacity of Nigerian talent.
While expressing the commitment of medical practitioners in Nigeria, Prof. Omoti said that the NMA remains committed to collaborating with NIDCOM, government, institutions, healthcare stakeholders, development partners, and diaspora organizations to drive excellence in the country’s health sector.
The event, which was held at the Centre of Excellence in Reproductive Health Innovation (CERHI) UNIBEN, had notable medical professionals for the training include Dr. Uche Menakaya, Gynecologist and Endoscopic Surgeon from Australia, Prof. Francesco Cedne from the University of Milan, Italy, Prof. Ligita Jokubkiene from Lund University, Sweden, and Juliet Menakaya from Australia.
