This was stated in a statement by Rt. Hon. Festus Ebea. Commissioner for Public Safety and Security, made available to The9jaTREND in Benin City, the state capital.

The Army disclosed this in a letter signed by Maj.-Gen. I. M. Abdullahi, on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff which said the exercise is aimed at increasing awareness and encouraging more qualified youths in the state to apply for the recruitment exercise.

According to the letter, a similar sensitisation exercise was conducted in Edo during the previous recruitment exercise in collaboration with the state government.

The Army said the earlier exercise led to an increase in the number of applications and successful candidates from the state.

It, however, said Edo State still failed to meet its required quota of successful candidates, prompting the Chief of Army Staff to direct that the sensitisation programme be sustained.

“The Chief of Army Staff has directed that the sensitization exercise be sustained in the state,” the letter said.

The Army urged the governor to support the exercise by using local electronic and print media to further publicise the recruitment opportunity.

It said sustained publicity would have a positive impact on turnout and help increase the number of applicants from Edo State.

The sensitisation team is expected to visit the state between Oct. 5 and Oct. 12 as part of efforts to reach prospective applicants ahead of the 92nd RRI recruitment exercise.

“Applicants should be between the ages of 18 and 26 years” Rt. Hon. Ebea stated.
