Chief Anthony Enahoro – A Pillar Of Democracy In Nigeria, Says Edo Dep. Speaker

Deputy Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, (EDHA), Rt. Hon. (Mrs.) Maria Omozele Oligbi-Edeko has ascribed chief Anthony Enahoro, the Adolor of Uromi, as the pillar of democracy in Nigeria.

Barr. Maria Oligbi-Edekor said the motion for the granting of internal self-rule from the colonial masters which eventually became practicable in 1960 was the foundation of the present Democratic structures which are now flourishing.

According to Edekor, who spoke in Benin City, Edo State capital during the unveiling and launching of the book titled: “Chief Anthony, An Icon of  leadership”, written by an illustrious son of Uromi Kingdom, former Editor, The Nigerian Observer Newspaper, Eubaldus Enahoro said with the boldness of Chief Anthony Eromosele Enahoro,  who stood before all odds to tell the colonial masters that Nigeria needs freedom was a great sacrifice.

Mrs. Edekor  who has continue to render selfless service to his people in consonance with the vision of chief Enahoro, for fairness, Justice, equity in the society, commended  Uromi people’s movement for providing an avenue to reflect on the life and legacies of the Nationalist who brought honour to Esanland in particular  and Nigeria in general.


She further added that, with the present security situation in Uromi, she has taken it upon herself by building a Police Station at the National Institute of Construction Technology and Management (NICTM), Uromi.

She said with the full presence of the Police, students and Staffs of the institution will be protected from the bad elements terrorizing the area.

She said the physical transformation of Edo Central extraction, especially her Ancestral home Uromi has been a priority as the welfare of the citizens must be topmost in our mind.

She expressed satisfaction that Esanland has produced prominent politicians, that have resharpened the socio economic and political landscape of the country, as well as made invaluable contributions to refocusing the Economic, Education, Health, Agriculture, Solid Minerals, and Security sectors of the Nation’s Economy.

She called the indigenous of Esanland both home and in the Diaspora to concerted efforts to enable us to immortalize Chief Anthony Enaholo image in Uromi, his own town in Edo Central senatorial district.

The unveiling of the book titled: “Chief Anthony, An Icon of  leadership”, brought together prominent sons and daughters of Uromi Kingdom and great people of Esanland to celebrate the life and legacies of Chief Anthony Eromosele Enahoro, whose motion at the Federal House of Representatives in 1953, saw the attainment of Independence of Nigeria in 1960.
