Ighodalo’s Fruitless Guber Fight: A Losing Battle for PDP in Edo

Monday Okpebholo and Asue Ighodalo
By Paul Ezenwa
As Dr. Asue Ighodalo vows to fight the Edo gubernatorial battle to the end, it’s clear that the Peoples Democratic Party’s, PDP, campaign is on a sinking ship over their wasted plans to recover a non-existing mandate.
With a dwindling chance of victory, Ighodalo’s determination seems more like desperation.
Although, Asue Ighodalo and his party’s determination to fight the battle to the end in the Edo gubernatorial election may be admirable, it’s clear that his party, PDP, is on a losing streak after Governor Monday Okpebholo defeated them in the two rounds of attempts made by them.
Asue Ighodalo’s recent statements on fighting to win the Gubernatorial Election in the appeal court have further exposed the depths of his desperation and lack of confidence in his own case.
The PDP candidate’s allegations of bribery and intimidation are unsubstantiated and seem designed to garner sympathy and attention with unfounded claims of witnesses being offered ₦30 and ₦40 million for not appearing in court to testify in the case.
With a lack of momentum and a dwindling support base, Ighodalo’s efforts may ultimately prove fruitless and a battle already lost.
The PDP’s campaign seems to be lacking momentum, with Ighodalo’s rhetoric failing to inspire confidence in his ability to lead, increasingly giving to his followers a dashed hopes of some sort
The PDP’s decline in Edo State and across the country is evident, with the party struggling to regain traction with its leadership crisis
and internal conflicts contribute to its woes.
Ighodalo’s determination to fight to the end may be commendable, but it’s a fruitless endeavour that would further compound the disaster awaiting its advancement.
Governor Monday Okpebholo in his days in office after the election and tribunal victories, has proven that Edo People made the right decision by voting against a proponent of audio and deceptive tendency, should Asue Ighodalo had won and PDP retains power in the state.
