The immediate past Deputy Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mrs. Marie Omozele Oligbi-Edeko has called for the Establishment of Esan Security Trust Fund to assist security agencies in handling security challenges in Edo Central Senatorial District.

Oligbi- Edeko stated that the funds will be readily available to them during security emergencies when they will not be able to assess government funds for very critical operations.

Hon. Edeko who made the call while receiving an award of excellence for leadership by the Esan Youths for Good Governance in Benin City also called on all Esan sons and daughters to contribute in making the Mobile Police Barracks that has just been approved for Uromi to be functional, adding that it will serve the entire Esanland and will improve security in the area.

While assuring that she will utilise the mandate given her as legislator to develop her Esan North-East Constituency 2 and other parts of Esanland, pointing out that, she has broken several glass ceilings as a girl child is a special privilege from God which she will use to uplift her people.

While enumerating some of the projects she executed that attracted the attention of Esan Youths for Good Governance and Social Justice which include the renovation of blocks of classrooms at Our Lady of Lord’s Girls Grammar School, Uromi, renovation of Amendeokhia Police station, upgrading of Amendeokhian Police station to a Divisional Police Office and building of a Police station and equipping it at the Federal Science and Technical college,Uromi, just to mention few.

“Today, I’m indeed very glad about the receipt of this award from Eastern Youth for Good Governance and Social Justice.

This award of excellence, exemplary republic leadership, is very valuable to me because it’s coming from my environment and is coming from my senatorial district.

I am the first girl child from the North East local government area to become a commissioner and to become a parliamentarian. To me, this is a divine mandate that is spiritual in nature.

I am the second girl child from that Senatorial district to become a parliamentarian. So, I feel a secret key has been given to me, and this I must keep and guide jealously. So, I am actually very intentional and deliberate. I try to keep to the rule of law.

I try to serve my people with love. What guides me always is what will I be remembered for? You are only remembered for the good you have done. If I had all the resources, nothing I would do for my people and for mankind. So, the little I have done, I’m happy that you have observed it

“To my people, my senatorial district and the entire people of our state, it’s a choice we have to make, whether we want to run our country well or we don’t want to run it well.

“If we run our country well, we’ll all enjoy it because there is an abundance of resources. We are the most blessed. But today, look at the suffering in the land because we have become very selfish people. We become people who don’t keep the rule of law.

“The first thing God did was to make law because he knew that human beings can not live properly, cannot live happily if there is no rule of law. And if we go back to that, we will know that without obedience to the rule of law, nothing will work in this country.

“Today, we have people who have a sense of entitlement. They think the positions they are occupying are for them. And they don’t think about the people who gave them that mandate. If we all do well to remember that it’s not about us, for every decision we take, we will think first of the good of our land and of our people.” She stated.

Earlier in his remarks, the President of Esan Youths for Good Governance and Social Justice, Comrade Benson Odia, stated the group is honouring Hon. Oligbi-Edeko for her immense developmental contributions.

He praised her efforts in Esan North-East, across Esanland, and lauded her political sagacity and proactive approach in addressing community issues within the Edo State House of Assembly and beyond.

Comrade Odia highlighted Honourable Edeko’s project at Our Lady of Lourdes Girls’ Grammar School, Uromi, where she constructed a perimeter fence and entrance to enhance safety and security in the institution.

He further noted her intervention at Amedokhian, where she rehabilitated the Police Station, elevating it to the status of a Divisional Police Headquarters through her dedicated leadership and personal commitment.

Honourable Edeko also built and equipped a police station at the Federal Science and Technical College, Uromi, and fenced the Amedokhian Divisional Police Headquarters to improve community safety.

He noted that she donated power bikes to members of the Edo State Security Network in her constituency to strengthen local security operations and enable faster emergency response within Esan North-East.

“She collaborated with the World Bank to construct a cottage clinic in Uzea, ensuring it will be fully furnished and staffed, addressing healthcare gaps in the rural community effectively.

“She also built an ultra-modern healthcare center at Ebhoijie, Ebhoiy, Uromi, and constructed a perimeter fence at Olinlin Primary School, Uzea, to promote safety and improve educational infrastructure for pupils,” he said.

The high point of the occasion was the award presentation to Hon. Mrs. Maria Omozele Oligbi-Edeko received amidst loud cheers and heartfelt appreciation from community members and dignitaries present. Rt. Hon.
