Group Begs Governor Okpebholo To Revive Oba Akenzua Cultural Centre

A group known as Aiguobasinmwin Movement Worldwide on Thursday appealed to the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo the revival.yje abandoned of Oba Akenzua Cultural Centre on Airport Road, Benin City.

In a statement signed by it’s President Iyamu Osaro Culture, Assistant Secretary Uhunoma Ewere Lucky, and Diaspora Coordinator Monday Ohuimumwen, JP, noting that the appeal become necessary based on campaign promises the Governor made during the 2024 Governorship elections.

The statement highlighted that Oba Akenzua Cultural Centre is a National Monument built during the military era and donated to the Edo State Government.

According to the group, during the Oshiomhole’s administration, the then Governor leased the Centre to the Palace for initial 30 years noting that when Governor Obaseki came onboard, he terminated the lease agreement for reason best known to him.

Most worrisome the group added is that Oba Akenzua Cultural Centre is now gradually turning into a forest in the heart of Benin City hence the appeal on Governor Monday Okpebholo to fulfil one of the promises he made during the 2024 Governorship elections regarding the revival of Oba Akenzua Cultural Centre.
