The National Chairman of Labour Party, (LP), Barr. Julius Abure has said that the recent statement credited to Mr. Godwin Obaseki, Edo State governor that labour party supporters would soon run out of steam as contradictory, claim that as at today, Edo State is Obidient and the results of 2023 presidential election will vindicate the party.
Barr. Abure made the statement during the inauguration of the Edo State chapter of the 2023 Obi/Datti Presidential Campaign Council in Benin City, Edo State capital.
According to him, “The same Governor Godwin Obaseki recently said that the name Obidient has become a household name in every nooks and crannies of the state. When people like him speak from both sides of the mouth, we only just laugh and sympathize with them. As it is today, I can boldly say that Edo is fully Obidient and the results of next year election will vindicate us.
“With Peter Obi as the president of Nigeria come 2023, Nigeria’s problem will be a thing of the part, because he is with the right pedigree to deliver the country from the bad leadership of APC and PDP.
“Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his counterpart in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Amend Tinubu has nothing to offer Nigerians going by their past records.”
Abure disclosed that he was in Edo State; his home state to formally inaugurate the 2023 Obi/Datti Presidential Campaign Council and also to meet with stakeholders of the party on how to plan ahead for the party’s victory come 2023 election.
“You know that this is my state and I will not rest on my oars until I win the state for Labour Party and that is why we are having this strategic meeting”.
The National Chairman who congratulated members of the campaign council, stated that Obi/Datti and Labour Party movement is motivated by honesty, capability, character and full-blooded, adding that those who made the state presidential campaign council list are good party’s men and women with good characters and can be entrust with the assignment.
“If the crusade is driven by integrity and all these factors inclusive, it means that those who will join in the campaign train must also be people who are of those characteristics.
“Winning election is not done in Benin City alone; it is not business you seat in Abuja and gives directory, it is a business you must take to your neighborhood,” he stated.
Going further, Barr. Abure added, “the presidential campaign train will be visiting Edo North on the 11th of this month and I consider this meeting imperative to fine-tune modalities for our electoral victory at the forthcoming election.
“The campaign which is expected to start from Auchi will feature road works, rallies, visitation to markets, schools and town hall meetings with the grand finale in Benin City the Edo State capital.”
Speaking to newsmen at the event, the national chairman stated that Labour party frowns at politicians buying votes.
“We see it as an aberration for politicians to buy votes and seduce voters with the money stolen from our common patrimony to buy the conscience of voters in order to stay on in government to continue to steal from all of us and that is what we frown at and consider unacceptable because that is the beginning of the trouble for our country, because when people steal money and use same to buy their ways into government, the circle of stealing continues unabated”.
Abure debunked the rumour that he has resigned his position as the national chairman of labour party.
According to him, “I have been inundated with calls about my purported resignation even though I was in my office carrying out the functions of the national chairman. I have no reason to resign. I have been in this party since 2002. I am a founding member of the party. I was the Assistant State Secretary in Edo, later became State Secretary, then Deputy National Secretary and today here I am as the national chairman of the party.
“The vision of the founding fathers of the party is being realised in my time because we have always conceived that the major challenges the country is faced with is that, there are no party internal democracy in other parties and we have always have the dream of a political party that would be owned by the people, funded and driven by the people.
“I have put my hands on the plough and there is no looking back, so the rumour of my resignation is simply mischievous as I have no intention of resigning.”
In a chat with newsmen at the event, the State Chairman of the party, Barr. Kelly Ogbaloi said, “the national chairman of Labour party, Barr. Julius Abure is from Edo State and that he has come home to brainstorm with his people and stakeholders of the party with a view to harmonizing, strategies and techniques for the campaigns that will guarantee victory for the party. That is the synopsis of the meeting of today”, he asserted.
