Labour Party Reduces Gov Nomination Fee From N25m To N15m

The Labour Party (LP) has reduced the nomination fee for aspirants to N15 million instead of N25 million.
In view of the forthcoming gubernatorial primaries in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states, the Labour Party (LP) has reduced the nomination fee for aspirants to N15 million instead of former fee of N25 million.
Recall, Kenneth Okonkwo, spokesperson for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), in a series of tweets Monday, had cried out over the N25m governorship nomination fee, describing it as exorbitant.
Highlighting Article 8(h) of the party’s constitution, he said, “To broaden participation in governance at all levels by ensuring that the costs of the electoral process do not constitute hindrance to any Nigerian”.
However, today, Wednesday 29th March, Okonkwo took to Twitter to share the revised charge for the LP governorship nomination forms.
According to the spokesperson Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council, the LP had taken note of the suggestions of Nigerians that a party of working-class Nigerians should settle for a nomination fee of no more than N15m for the post of a governor.
He said the decision came after due consultation with relevant stakeholders in the party and taking into consideration the overwhelming interest of Nigerians in the party.
The LP campaign spokesman highlighted the need to birth a new Nigeria, in view of the prevailing hike in market prices, describing the party as a listening party.
“In line with our avowed disposition to carry Nigerians along in what we do, the Party has decided to review the cost of nomination forms downwards for all positions taking into consideration the suggested amount of N15m for the post of Governor.
“We must move together to salvage our country from incompetent and dishonest leadership of the old order,” he added.
