Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), has set up a three-man Credentials Committee to conduct election of new State Executive Council (SEC) come December, 2021.
Comrade Roland Osakue, the outgoing Chairman of Edo State NUJ inaugurated the Committee at an enlarged Congress held at the conference hall of the union on Wednesday 27th October, 2021 in Benin City, the state capital.
The Committee is chaired by Comrade Peace Ifidon of Vibes FM Chapel, while Comrade Osamuyi Ogbomo of ITV Chapel and Comrade Agatha Eguare of Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) chapel will serve as Secretary and member of the Committee respectively.
Meanwhile, a petition by one Comrade Osaro Best-Idahosa who claimed to-be a member of Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS) NUJ Chapel, who alleged exclusion from the recent bye-election that produced Comrade Festus Alenkhe as the Assistant Secretary of the Chapel was thrown away for lacking in merit after various submissions by members of the Union.
The presiding chairman, Comrade Roland Osakue then called on Secretary of EBS NUJ Chapel, Comrade Josephine Erhinwinhe who told the congress that, by virtue is her position as the secretary of EBS NUJ chapel, Osaro Best-Idahosa cannot claim to be a member of the union, that he is a member of RATAWU wig of EBS.
On his part, former Chairman of Edo NUJ, Comrade Desmond Agbama, recalled how Comrade Festus Alenkhe who is also an aspirant in Edo NUJ 2021 election, served as Auditor with him when he was elected the Chairman EBS NUJ Chapel years ago.
Comrade Osakue further emphasised that going by the Constitution of NUJ, it is the sole responsibility of the leadership of any chapel executive to conduct bye -election to feel in any vacant position if there is any and communicate such to the state council for proper documentation.
He then charged the Credentials Committee members never to compromise while discharging their duties. He stressed further that every members of the union are expecting from them to conduct free, fair and credible election that will usher in new executive come December, 2021.
