The management and staff of Integrated Data Services Limited (IDSL), a subsidiary of Nigeria National Petroleum Cooperation, has carried out community awareness campaign against drug abuse as part of its community relations programs.

The awareness campaign by the management and staffs of the company went round major streets in Oko Community sensitizing the people expecially the youths on drug abuse.

Addressing Oko Community at the market, the Managing Director of IDSL commended the people for the relative peace and cordial relationship that has existed between the community and the company and that IDSL will do its utmost best to always carry the people along at all times.

Continuing, Mr. Marcel Ogbona Amu said IDSL as a strategic business unit of the NNPC, is involved in adding value to all stakeholders of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry, adding that the key ones amongst this stakeholders are their clients closely followed by the host community which is why the company choose to start the Sustainable Community Development Programs in 2018 that brought about the building of Market Stores in three phases, consisting of Toilet and 26 Lockup Stores.

He further added that the company was able to achieve all these by continuously building trust, support and collaboration with host communities to work in and around the volatile Niger-Delta region through sustained community relations policy.

Mr. Amu subsequently added that IDSL as a responsible organisation, conducts its activities to meet the expectations of the local communities where its operations are carried out and also strive to reduce potential negative impacts of its operations by actively pursuing HSEQ policies that are of the industry standard.

He noted that the CRS projects and interventions for the host communities are targeted at strategic groups such as the women and youths for human capacity building and empowerment, pointing out that IDSL conducts its business in an environmentally friendly atmosphere which equally impacts the safety of every members of the host communities, the company inaugurated this campaign against Drug Abuse.

Mr. Amu said the campaign is geared towards educating the youths on the dangers of drug abuse and enlightening them on the benefits of healthy living, such as grooming youths who will grow to be responsible individuals and leaders in the society and Nigeria at large as well as providing the people with the knowledge necessary to avoid risking situations and information to make healthier personal choices.

The Managing Director pointed out that some of the complications that may arise as a result of drug abuse includes unemployment, impaired social education and health functioning, increased risk of domestic/intimate partner violence, health attack, stroke, Hiv/Aids, Hepatitis, Brain damage and eventually death.

He used the occasion to call on the host community to join IDSL to tackle the world drug problem so that the society will be a better place for all.
