Federated Chapel of Edo NUJ Gets New Executive

Elections of candidate into various positions in Federated chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, have been conducted in Benin City, Edo State Capital
The election which was conducted by the Treasurer of the Council, Comrade Solomon Obusoyan, was witnessed by the Secretary of the Council, Comrade Andy Egbon and journalists from other chapels was adjudged free, fair and credible election.
18 members of the chapel were accredited to vote.
At the end of the election, Comrade Mercy Onyenwenli emerged the Chairman. She scored 17 votes to defeat his rival, Timothy Omobude who pulled out of the contest less than 24 hours before the election.
Other elected executives who were returned unopposed included: Ighomuaye Lucky (Secretary), Anita Erhenhi (Treasurer) and Justy Oteri (Financial Secretary).
Speaking after administering the oath of office, the Edo State Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Festus Alenkhe said the election was the most peaceful election ever conducted since assumption of office as Chairman of Edo NUJ.
He said the withdrawal of the other chairmanship candidate who purchased election form, cleared for the election, and his name published, couldn’t invalidate the election. He urged the members of Federated to embrace peace.
Comrade Alenkhe lauded the effort of the Caretaker Committee headed by Dr. Isaac Eranga, CPM, for a smooth electoral process. According to him, “the electoral process was really constitutional.
Speaking, the newly elected Chairman of Federated chapel, Comrade Mercy Onyenwenli assured members of her readiness to follow the developmental footprints of Comrade Festus Alenkhe to bring development to the chapel. She promised to embrace peace and to run an open door policy.
