The Edo State Police Command and elders of Umelu Quarters, Ugbekun Community, Upper Sakponba, have declared one Douglas Osaigbovo Umweni wanted following his allegedly involvement in serial sexual taboo.
In a statement issued and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, said that at about 14.00 hours, March 10th, 2024, One Douglas Osaigbovo Umweni of No. 4, Umelu Quarters, Upper Sakponba Road, Ugbekun Community, Benin City, Edo State, was almost lynched to death alongside his male friend by mob of Ugbekun Community as he was thereafter brought naked to the police station at Ugbekun Police Division.
SP Chidi Nwabuzor stated that the angry youths in their statement, alleged that Douglas Osaigbovo Umweni and his male friend identified as Stanley Aghama, were caught in the act of homosexual, thereby commiting an offense against the Nigerian Law, Punishable under section 214 of the Criminal Code with fourteen ( 14) years in imprisonment.
SP Chidi Nwabuzor stated that the angry youths claimed that they have been monitoring the said Douglas Osaigbovo Umweni and his male friend, Stanley Aghama following their devious plans, and alleged involvement in homosexual in the last few months before the bubble burst.
Worse still, SP Chidi Nwabuzor stated that Douglas Osaigbovo Umweni according to the youths, preferred male friends to females since he grew up in the Community, disclosing that his involvement with male friend and was locked in the web of sex, portended serious taboo against the tradition and customs of Edo land and Ugbekun Community hence the decision to hand him over to the police for prosecution
SP Chidi Nwabuzor further confirmed that the police Operatives immediately commenced investigation and the two suspects on administrative bail to their lawyer on March 17th, 2024 to avoid death or being killed by the angry youths pending the completion of the investigation and arraignment in Court, Instead Douglas Osaigbovo Umweni and his friend, Stanley Aghama failed to present themselves for arrangement, hence they are being declared wanted by the Nigerian Policeforce since March 30th 2024 to date as the entry was made by Inspector Monday Agbontaen.
SP Chidi Nwabuzor therefore appealed to the general public, anyone for useful information that would be possible for the arrest of Douglas Osaigbovo Umweni and his friend Stanley Aghama partner in Crime ,and warned those involved in homosexual to desist from such abomination as the long arms of the law would soon catch up with them.
