The 17 man caretaker committee is headed by Rt. Hon. Mrs. Elizabeth Ativie, a former speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly.

The new state executive committee of the LP was inaugurated today, the 27th day of May, 2024 in Benin City by the Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi.

While administering the oath of office of the members of the new executive committee of the party,  Dr. Olorunfemi said the new leadership of the party in Edo State is expected to take charge of the affairs of the party pending when a fresh congress will hold to elect a new executive in the state.

In his speech, the   member representing Oredo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Esosa lyawe commended the national leadership of the labour party for appointing Hon. Elizabeth Ativie as the chairman of the caretaker committee.

He said the party is ready to go into the Edo State Governorship election coming up in September this year with Barrister Olumide Akapata as its gubernatorial candidate.

The secretary of the Party, Hon. Oses Emmanuel Eromwonsele lauded members of the party for their turn out during the inauguration.

In line with the letter signed by the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barrister Julius Abure made available to newsmen, the new executive of the party in the state are expected to work in conjunction with the party’s governorship candidate, Barrister Olumide Osaigbovo Akapata towards ensuring victory in the Governorship election slated for 21st September, 2024.

When contacted via telephone, Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi said, “We are not aware that whether Edo State Labour Party executive has been dissolved because there is a process to all of these. No one man can just wake up one day and remove a structure that has being.

“The National Working Committee of the party led then by Barr. Julius Abure reached agreement that there shall be no congress in Edo State until after the governorship election slated for 21st September, 2024, that the exco should be allowed to prosecute the state election after which congress can now be call.

“As leaders we should be masters of our words; we should not go back from our discussion; we should not go back to any term agreement that we made.  Going by that agreement, what is the use of expediency now trying to do a caretaker committee to preside over the party for just three months?”
