The member representing Ikpoba-Okha Constituency at the Edo State House of Assembly, (EDHA), Hon. Nicholas Asonsere has said he snubbed the opulence of his official quarters in the GRA,  Benin City, and opted to reside in his private residence in order to be closer to his constituent.

Asonsere who disclosed that he has lived in the residence since his primary school days to the university, noted that the decision has helped him to localise legislative activities with the people.

The legislator who is the chairman, House Committee on Education disclosed this to journalists in Benin City while giving his stewardship to mark one year as representative of the constituency.

He added that he had served as the leader of the local government council legislative arm for three terms while also residing in the residence.

According to him, “I have resided with my people so that I can be part of them and know what they are going through to enable me to agitate, speak, proffer solutions to their needs and desires.

“And for one year since I was elected, I have kept to my campaigns promises which also includes installation of street lights and establishment of a training center for youth’s vocational works.”

Continuing, Asonsere said he sponsored three successful bills in the period under review, adding that one of which led to a law which backed St. Columbus in Uromi.

He also disclosed that 103 individuals were assisted with JAMB, Senior and Junior Schools Certificates examination enrollments.

The legislator however noted: “but because I am an introvert, I don’t want to be exposing the handicap or inability of certain parents. But we keep faith in God, and the beneficiaries are all doing well.”
