Edo NUJ Felicitates With Muslims On Eid-el-Kabir

The Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has sent a message of felicitation to all Muslims and Non-Muslim alike on Eid-el-kabir celebration.

In the message signed by Comrade (Dr) Festus Alenkhe and Comrade Andy Egbon, State Chairman and Secretary respectively and made available to journalists in Benin, the duo said a good life does not just happen adding that it is built by daily prayers, humility, sacrifice and patience.

They reminded the people of the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah adding that Eid-el-kabir is a celebration of faith, sacrifice, submission and truthfulness to divine will.

The duo said the festival occurs on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah which is the final month of lslamic lunar calendar that coincides with Hajj pilgrimage.

The duo also appealed to journalists in the state to continue to engage in news report that will deepen democracy adding that journalists have the power to operate under Section 22 of the Nigerian constitution.

The Edo NUJ leaders declared that Chapter 2, Section 22 of the Nigeria’s Constitution states that the Press, Radio, Television and other agencies of the mass media are free to uphold the fundamental objectives of the constitution as they are also responsible for upholding the responsibility and accountability of the government to the people.

The duo further quoted Nigeria’s Constitution as saying that it emphasizes the role of the mass media in holding the government accountable and ensuring transparency.

According to Comrade Alenkhe and Comrade Egbon, every journalist in Edo State must ensure that the ethics of the profession are strictly adhered to while performing the journalism work.
