Fubara announced his decision in Abuja after meeting with the national leader of the NDC, Seriake Dickson, alongside other senior party stakeholders.

Describing the NDC as “a moving train,” Fubara said his defection was motivated by a deep concern for the future of Rivers State and a determination to protect the interests of its people amid ongoing political tensions.

“The soul of Rivers State is at stake,” he said, expressing confidence that the state would recover from its present challenges and chart a more stable and progressive course after the 2027 elections.

According to him, the people of Rivers are ready to reclaim their political destiny and support a platform capable of delivering genuine development, justice and inclusive governance.

Fubara’s move comes as political alignments intensify across the country ahead of the 2027 general elections, with emerging parties such as the NDC attracting politicians, technocrats and grassroots leaders seeking alternatives to the established political order.

Observers say his entry into the NDC could bolster the party’s grassroots mobilisation efforts in Rivers State and strengthen its influence across the Niger Delta.

The development is also viewed as part of a wider shift among influential stakeholders who believe new political coalitions will play a decisive role in shaping Nigeria’s future.

Blessing Fubara Snr. is widely recognised for his contributions to youth empowerment, employment generation and socio-economic development across Rivers State and the Niger Delta region.

He is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of D’ Consiglories LLC, a consulting and development firm involved in community transformation initiatives.

Over the years, he has served in several strategic positions in both the public and private sectors, including Technical Assistant to the Rivers State Government on Employment Generation and Empowerment, Consultant to the Niger-Delta Development Commission on Youth Development, and Consultant on Urban Renewal and Infrastructure Development.

Through these roles, he has championed programmes focused on youth inclusion, entrepreneurship, infrastructure renewal and sustainable economic growth.

Fubara maintained that despite current political uncertainties, Rivers State possesses the human and natural resources needed to achieve greater stability and prosperity.

He said the 2027 elections would provide an opportunity for the people to make choices that prioritise peace, development and accountable leadership.

Political analysts believe his defection could encourage other stakeholders in Rivers State to reconsider their affiliations as preparations for the next electoral cycle gather momentum.

With the NDC continuing to expand its footprint nationwide, the addition of Blessing Fubara Snr. is seen as another significant step in the party’s effort to position itself as a formidable force ahead of the 2027 general elections.
