This was stated in a press statement signed by Mr. Iyamu Osaro Culture – President, Mr. Osayuki-Osa Benson – General Secretary and Mr. Monday Ohuimumwen JP – Diaspora Coordinator made available to newsmen in Benin City, Edo State Capital.

The group expressed deep concerned about what they called “the unhealthy political developments in Edo State” stating that historically, many in Edo South saw and fought the Obaseki administration for sidelining Benin Traditional Institutions and pushing policies that were anti-Benin. “The People Democratic Party (PDP) chieftains and leaders who backed him got labeled as enabling that agenda, even if they are Benin indigents.”

The statement read:

“Our concern now is that some APC leaders are repeating the same pattern, prioritizing personal and political alignment with Abuja or state power brokers over defending Benin Nation’s interests. If they remain silent while Edo South’s position gets carved out in state creation talks, it will look worse, because they campaigned on “protecting Benin.”

“The great Benin people expected the All Progressives Congress (APC) to be a corrective after the Obaseki era. If their chieftains and leaders act the same or worse, silent on exclusion, supporting outsiders imposed on Edo South, then the betrayal feels deeper. This is not just about party. It is about whether Benin Nation has any defenders in power.

“APC chieftains and leaders in Edo South should remember that power does not last forever.

“Once again, we totally reject the influence of external forces in the affairs of Edo South and the Benin Nation.”
